For some, gangs or crews need police repression, incarceration and punishment. Others think that police repression is not enough, and peace can only be achieved with more engagement with our neighbors, and by showing solidarity and love to our youth, giving them a better education and getting them involved in community work.
Gangs or crews can be necessary for young kids to survive in the city, when they have no family and their parents are absent in their lives. Can communities work with gangs or crews as long as crime is taken away from them?

I know in order to deal with the gangs as family we must give them something positive to do. There is so much construction in Columbia Heights, youth should be given the oportunity to work or programs like In the Streets who is a non-profit organization should be given funds to work in Columbia Heights with the youth. In Da Streets,Inc is planning to vist the westcoast to meet Homeboy, Inc. We will train how to work with gang members and exgang members to see eye to eye on there issues.We are seeking funds to work in this area, any donations to this organization are tax deductable.
