Glenn Beck's Restoring the Honor rally filled with angry White people - VIDEO

What I saw today at Glenn Beck "Restoring the Honor" Rally was hatred, racism, ignorance, fear, revenge, bigotry, lies, manipulation.  If THIS is what the United States should look like, it looks very troubling.

Today's rally was a demonstration of fear and division. I believe that most of Beck's supporters are blinded and angered -by the fanaticism spread by Beck, Sarah Palin, the Tea Party and their radical network supported [and financed] by the G.O.P.

It was supposed to be a day to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s Dream.

This is my video of the rally today:

This is what I saw today

Seems like most of Glenn Beck's followers refuse to see who their real oppressors are. They don't want to accept that this is not the U.S. they thought it was, at least not any longer. They are embracing obsolete concepts that are divisive and they are convinced they are right. If this radicalization continues, violence will explode.

These people think they have the right to discriminate, to impose their 'white supremacy' views and their ways of life to others. They don't want a United States of diversity and coexistence with people who don't agree or look like them. They call it freedom, but they really mean oppression and privilege.

Another sad example of the deep racial division this country faces today.

There was another rally in D.C. organized by African American civil rights groups to honor the extraordinary legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. [See the WaPo video here and photos here.] which I wanted to attend.

Instead I choose to attend the Beck's rally, because I wanted to be there and I wanted to see and feel what these people were about, face to face. I felt not good.

Their eyes were filled with distrust and even hatred, sadness and uncertainty. They were praying and singing, but it was a temporary illusion. Several times, I was verbally and physically attacked:

  • A lady pushed me away from "her spot" saying that she has no patience "for people like you".
  • An angry old man told me to "go back to Mexico" when I tried to interview him, adding that I don't "belong here".
  • Another man pushed me really hard when I was interviewing someone and told me to "shut up" while her wife whispered "you better leave right now!

I'm not making anything of this up.

While I was at the rally, I did not have a single minute of peace.

This wasn't a celebration of courage, charity nor honor. To me, this wasn't anything to be proud of. Since the moment I got in the Metro train early in the morning, to the time when I was on my way back home, I got their looks of distrust, me being the short Brown guy of indigenous heritage, I was pushed twice in the Metro train, and I overheard comments about "illegals" and things alike.

Even when I tried to help them at the Metro stations, when they looked dumb trying to buy their farecards or getting directions, they response would be "NO!" ... but I helped them anyways. Most of them seemed to be working-class, military personnel, rural families, old European descendants.

Seriously, I think this country needs to reunite before it gets worse. Someone needs to reach out to these communities and teach them about the new United States. The same way I taught some of them how to use their Smartrip cards.

The Tea Party followers need to see how they are aging in disgrace and their hatred is their worst weakness. Meanwhile the rich keep using them.

The worst part is, most of them have guns.

  1. This behavior is normal in american people: fanatic, racist, ignorant, symple if no crude. No surprise.

  2. I'm thankful and proud of your effort. This video shows well how these people think. I'm really thinking about moving somewhere else, don't want my children to live in a nation divided by racism and possibly violence.

  3. Mr. Quiroz,

You and Mr. Sharpton seem to view the world so much differently than I do. It's true that I am anglo and people with my shade of skin have done bad things since the beginning of time. Guess what, so has every race on this planet. Our failures to love, honor, and respect our fellow man are a human condition. The best parts of man belong to all of us, as do the worst parts of man. Mr. Beck's rally was not perfect in my eyes, they did some things very poorly. The fact is that more often than not, the American people do the right thing. In holding this rally, Glenn Beck spoke of God and pillars to build a life on, Faith-Hope-Charity. Take his voice out of the discussion, and tell me what is wrong with the message. Would you fault your father, mentor, or faith leader for delivering the same message? Thank you.

  4. Just because there are more white people than brown or black people doesn't make this gathering a racist congregation. I'm brown/latino/democrat, and, although, I've met some truly ignorant white people in this world, you could say that most people watching this sort of video message you've presented will buy into the fact that this movement is hateful. So why would a black person or brown person make any effort to attend one of these rallies? The general thought in American society today is that anything associated with Fox News, Glenn Beck, or Sarah Palin is ignorant and racist. How truly ignorant and hateful is that thought process?
Let's get over this: if a group of black people want to group together to watch the President of the United States get sworn in, or a group of white people attend a rally (that in the media is portrayed as racist, thus discouraging other colors to really participate or care about it), why can't we just let it be? why the analysis and finger-pointing? why the subtle-messaging that this group of people are obviously hateful racists? that's the message being sent!
I don't doubt a group of ignorant bumpkins have used this movement as a platform to express their hate, but this movement does NOT belong to them It honestly belongs to the American people: black, white, yellow, brown, red....

It's amazing how we excuse a few Muslim terrorists and make an EXTREME effort to demonstrate that the select few do not represent the entire faith, and rightfully so... so why aren't there individuals making the same efforts on this front? It's a very hypocritical America we live in, today... When the Republicans shut down Democrats for expressing dissent towards Pres. Bush, people were coined "Un-American." Today, if you dissent with the current President, Democrats or mainstream media, on the reverse, call people, "racists." It's the exact same story on both sides. I don't see why so many people fail to see this.

  5. In 2006, Time magazine reported that the number of hate groups in the United States increased by 33 percent since 2000, primarily due to anti-illegal immigrant and anti-Mexican sentiment. According to the annual Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hate Crimes Statistics Report, in 2007, Hispanics comprised 61.7 percent of victims of crimes motivated by a bias toward the victims’ ethnicity or national origin. Since 2003 the number of both victims of anti-Hispanic crimes and incidents increased by nearly 40 percent. In 2004, the comparable figure was 51.5 percent. In California, the state with the largest Mexican American population, the number of hate crimes committed against Latinos has almost doubled

  6. Carlos,

You are no different than these people who you have labeled as racist.
You are quick to judge and label everyone who might have different views than you as a racist, but thats the easy way out my friend. I feel sorry for you since you have fallen into their trap. They have succeeded in dividing this country for their own political/economical gain. It's a sham.

From reading your blog, I am under the impression that you are unable to clearly and unbiasedly debate the issues. You are just as opinionated and misguided as the people you accuse. I suggest you truly educate yourself in the issues and then form an opinion. You are quick to dismiss tea party ideas as "stupid" when in reality some, not all, of the planks to their platform do make sense. But rather all I read from your blog is the defense of a failed economic and political system like we see in Cuba and Venezuela.

This is coming from a latino liberal democrat who voted for Obama.

    Cheers.

  7. Hey Carlos,

If you go to voice of america web site and watch a video called "competing washington rallies" you are in it at 2:36 - 2:50 conducting the interview from your Glenn Beck restoring honor rally angry white people video. Good job documenting that crazy racist shit rally on video yesterday. I was there also. I didn't interview anyone. Just took video of all the weirdness. I'll have video up sometime this week.

Such a calculating and manipulating move to set this rally on the same day as MLK's dream speech anniversary. Wow, I'm really proud of you for having the guts to seek their opinions and to make us see, once again, their fear and ingnorance.
Looking at the significant turn on today's rally, their influence definetly should not be left unnoticed or understimated.

  10. The only person oppressing you is YOU. The rally was peaceful, and the attendees were friendly, country-loving, God-fearing people. Or is that what bothered you? Did you even hear anything that was said there? Have you ever even watched/listened to Glenn Beck, or do you just hear "stories" about how "racist" he is? Dr. King dreamed of a day when we would judge people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. How exactly do your actions honor that dream?

  11. In your honor, Carlos, I have shared your website with my friends (at www.RedState.com) and I am sure that (once reviewing your web-site and reading of your horrific experience at Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally), they, like me, will spread the word of your efforts to expose "the truth".

For your convenience, I have attached the link.

  12. Excellent Work! I have a request--I think that you need to get to work investigating an even more racist organization, one that is almost entirely white and where there is nary a Brown person to be seen.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermont#Population

This viciously Racist state is almost 98% white. I think you should do some interviews asking people there why there isn't more Brown people living there.

    /Sarc

Seriously, You seem to have absolutely no idea what the word "Racist" Means. Two Americans sitting down with an American flag does not represent "hatred, racism, ignorance, fear, revenge, bigotry, lies, [and] manipulation", as much as you wished it did. Americans will not tolerate your kind's* use of racial politics to try and divide this country for your own personal and political benefit for much longer. It is only a matter of time.

*Oh, and before you try to clutch at straws and accuse me of being racist, by "your kind" I mean Liberal Democrats. The kind who seek to destroy MLKJ's very dream--a Country where a man is not judged by the color of his skin, but by the contents of his character.

  13. These fanatics are so full of hatred they don't even see it. I was at the rally and I felt the negative energy, most of these folks are idiots, they believe anything that Glenn Beck tells them, even if they don't believe it they will follow him like robots. I admire your courage CARLOS, keep the work you doing is very important! Oh by the way, Im White and I usually vote Republican but I don't know anymore.

  14. You did good. Thanks for the write up. Are you coming out for the 10/30 sanity/Fear event?

  15. leftist find it way to easy to lie and distort for political gain. The problem is ignorance and a false sense of moral indignation topped of with a false sense of intellectual superiority. Here's some advice that thankfully you and your ilk will never take....only your small group of friends and like minded trolls actually think you are smart and clever and your oh so superior culture is also in your dull imagination...you need to lie better for anyone outside of your equally dim crowd to even consider your nonsensical commentary. Oh the vast majority here doesn't need your flavor of international commentary, I like call hate and envy for those that disagree with your tried and failed value system.

  16. Gabriel your amazing.....this is not a complement. Why on earth would you ever want to come to America? Please stay in what ever hole you scratch a living in and never grace us with your gigantic intellect. Your claims of Americans seem more in line with the dialogue spewed by you and your hateful followers here...look in a mirror to see the hate and cultural inferiority you claim exists in America.

  17. You crack me up, Carlitos...
There is more divisive bitterness, rage and racist anger in ONE of your blogposts than in the entire event you describe here. And there were at least 400,000 people there. I was there (with my 7 year-old son) and was encouraged and inspired. The crowd was very tranquil, polite, diverse and the only evidence of hateful intolerance were the signs carried by the lefty agitators who crashed the event to make silly incoherent statements. They were gracefully ignored for the most part.

I don't agree with all Glen Beck says but he certainly speaks for hope and positive change more than you do, judging from this blog.

You represent the very nastiness you project onto those who do not share your Left-wing views. People who think like you bring in mob rule, tyranny and terror in the name of "progressive change".

The last 2 posters said it better than I did.

Best wishes y viva la lucha etc.

  18. Of course Andrew, I can imagine that most of White people attending this rally felt completely embraced and comfortable. That was not my experience. I can also imagine that you living in the middle of Kansas, your world must be very different, and I see that you like to label people based on your perceptions. Exactly the way how many Tea Party members think and act.
