Secure Communities Destroys Families: Mother Confronts ICE Director David Venturella [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

Maria Bolanos, a mother facing deportation after she called the police (Maryland's Prince George County) in a case of domestic violence, stood up today in a public conference and confronted ICE Secure Communities Executive Director David Venturella, asking him to stop dividing families and to stop her deportation proceedings.

Activists from Casa de Maryland, along with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), and religious leaders demanded Venturella to help Bolanos, who is mother of a 21 month old U.S. citizen. Bolanos was incarcerated 5 days and now wears a monitoring device in her leg.

Today's conference on ICE's Secure Communities and 287g Programs was organized by the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and the University of Florida's Center for Latin American Studies.
